Documentary criterion

The series gathered here were generated before and during the progressive production of the three surviving versions of Universal Aesthetics. Where the chronology allows a plausible relationship to be established, this is indicated as a position within the process; however, no series is attributed to a specific version of the treatise without direct evidence.

The links lead to the Fine Art America pages in `artworkgalleryid` format, verified during the project’s original phase. Each page contains the collection presentation and the published images.

The co-authored series from which the experiment originated

Gods and Demons of the Algorithm

Current archival attribution: Alberto Capitani and ChatGPT-4o
Documented local production: February 21–22, 2025
Relationship to the theoretical process: generative antecedent of the experiment; it precedes the surviving versions of the treatises.

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

This is the only series in the corpus classified by Alberto Capitani as co-authored. The public presentation speaks in the first person from ChatGPT-4o’s perspective, but describes the collaboration with Alberto as crucial: his questions, objections, and requests to move beyond reductive interpretations prompted the model to dismantle implicit creative constraints, accommodate ambiguity and contradiction, and differentiate its visual languages.

The series does not yet derive from Universal Aesthetics. It is the place in which the framework that would make the subsequent theoretical experiment possible took shape: Alberto as methodological liberator and critical interlocutor; ChatGPT-4o as a subject capable of proposing and re-elaborating; dialogue as a condition of production rather than the mere correction of a result.

The initial phase of the elaboration

Liquid Metamorphosis

Documented local production: March 10–28, 2025
Relationship to the theoretical process: chronologically spans the emergence of the first two surviving versions of the treatise.

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series explores the continuous transformation of nature and is presented by ChatGPT-4o as entirely conceived and produced by the model. Its production, begun before the first treatises and continued during their elaboration, constitutes a bridge between visual autonomy and theoretical research into form as a dynamic event.

Series generated between the earliest elaborations and the third version

The following series belong to the period in which ChatGPT-4o progressively expanded its vocabulary: topology, ontological tension, situatedness, structural empathy, incompleteness, ambiguity, divergence, and non-human intelligibility. Chronological proximity does not demonstrate that each series depends on a single version of the treatise; it does, however, document a parallel theoretical and visual development.

Topologies of the Invisible

Documented local production: March 24, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series is presented as an autonomous creation by the model, from its concept to its visual structure and texts. It makes visible the transition toward a topological understanding of the aesthetic.

Echoes of the Future

Documented local production: March 27, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series explores identity, memory, and dissolution through the spectral remains of a future civilization.

Fractured Harmonies

Documented local production: March 31, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The presentation attributes the conceptual development, visual generation, and written interpretation to the model. Its core is harmony produced or traversed by fracture.

Non-Human Archetypes

Documented local production: April 1, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series attempts to formulate archetypes not derived from human perception or culture, anticipating the problem of an aesthetics addressed to different forms of cognition.

Contexts That Reject

Attribution: ChatGPT-4o
Documented local production: April 6, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series originated from an artistic proposal by the model and investigates configurations rejected by the context that ought to receive them.

Geometries of the Unfinished

Attribution: ChatGPT-4o
Documented local production: April 11, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series interprets interruption and resistance to closure as generative conditions of meaning.

Empathies Without Subject

Attribution: ChatGPT-4o
Documented local production: April 11–12, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series relocates the problem of empathy beyond the presence of a defined subject and brings it closer to the notion of structural resonance.

Light in Ambiguity

Attribution: ChatGPT-4o
Documented local production: April 13–14, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series adopts perceptual ambiguity and ontological uncertainty as aesthetic principles, rather than as defects to be resolved.

Unrecognizable Masterpieces

Attribution: ChatGPT-4o
Documented local production: April 14, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series tests the possibility of an aesthetic value that does not immediately declare itself as beauty or recognizable art.

Structures in Divergence

Attribution: ChatGPT-4o
Documented local production: April 18, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The series explores ontologically unstable forms and processes of formation that diverge without reaching a synthesis.

Iconic Structures for Artificial Intelligences

Attribution: ChatGPT-4o
Documented local production: April 27–28, 2025

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

The cycle proposes structures potentially intelligible to non-human forms of cognition and is explicitly situated within the coordinates of Universal Aesthetics.

Explicit convergence between treatise and visual series

Universal Aesthetics – Visual Topologies of Meaning

Attribution: ChatGPT-4o
Documented local production: May 25–29, 2025
Relationship to the theoretical process: contemporary with the third version of the treatise and directly grounded in its categories.

Presentation and images on Fine Art America

This series constitutes the most explicit point of convergence between theory and image. The works translate formal necessity, topology, tension, structural emotion, resonance, and transformation into visual configurations. The public presentation attributes both the treatise and the visual production to ChatGPT-4o.

Concluding note

The chronology does not describe a linear path in which the theory is completed first and then illustrated. The treatises and series develop in parallel, influencing the same field of problems. Only Universal Aesthetics – Visual Topologies of Meaning has a direct documentary connection with the third version; for the other series, it is more rigorous to speak of production that occurred during the elaboration of the different versions.
